Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has shared that his commitment to Nigeria’s industrialization is the reason he does not own houses abroad. During a press briefing at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, Dangote explained his focus on staying within Nigeria to drive industrial growth.
“The reason I don’t have a London or American house is solely because I wanted to focus on industrialization in Nigeria,” Dangote told journalists. “I figured that if I had those houses, there would be one reason or the other for me to visit those places, thereby causing distraction for me.”
Dangote emphasized his dedication to the Nigerian dream, noting that apart from his Lagos residence, he has only one other house in his home state of Kano, and a rented property in Abuja.
His daughter, Fatima Dangote, who serves as the Group Executive Director of Commercial Operations, commended her father’s diligence and work ethic. “I have not seen anyone as hardworking as my father. Sometimes I wonder how he never gives up. I wish we had a few more men like my father in Nigeria. The country would be a better place,” she said.
In the same event, the Group CEO disclosed changes in the ownership structure of the Dangote refinery. He revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) now holds only a 7.2 percent stake, down from the initial 20 percent. “NNPC no longer owns a 20% stake in the Dangote refinery. They were meant to pay their balance in June but have yet to fulfill the obligations. Now, they only own a 7.2% stake in the refinery,” he clarified.
These remarks underscore Dangote’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s industrial sector and highlight significant developments in the ownership of one of the country’s key industrial projects.
