The Anambra State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement within and outside the state during the November 8 governorship election. The command recently revealed that the restriction will take effect from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Election Day.
Speaking via a press statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, shared that the restriction applies to all roads across the state, including interstate highways.
According to him, the measure completely aligns with the unanimous decision reached at a meeting of Security Service Commanders held on November 5, 2025, at the Police State Headquarters in Awka.
He stated that the decision will help prevent political thugs who might attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
“The decision is aimed at preventing the movement of political thugs and other criminal elements who may attempt to disrupt the electoral process,” he said.
The restriction covers all kinds of motorized transportation, including private cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles and shuttle buses.
The police further advised interstate travellers to seek alternative routes during the restriction period.
Only persons on essential duties, like designated INEC officials, accredited journalists and observers, medical personnel, emergency responders, and essential service providers, will be exempted.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, however, added that those who are exempted must carry valid identification and clearance tags at all times.
