Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muhammad Daniel Amah, celebrated for his unwavering integrity, has converted to Islam in a private ceremony at the Emir of Kano’s palace. The event, presided over by Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, marked Amah’s formal acceptance of the Islamic faith and adoption of the name Muhammad.
During the ceremony on Tuesday, the Emir offered guidance to the new convert, emphasizing the importance of studying Islamic teachings and adhering to the religion’s five fundamental pillars. The Emir also counseled Amah to maintain his exemplary character and continue showing respect to his parents, regardless of their different religious beliefs.
Amah first gained national attention in April 2022 while serving as Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State. He made headlines for refusing a $200,000 bribe from robbery suspects who had stolen more than N300 million. The case involved a sophisticated operation where the prime suspect, Ali Zaki, orchestrated the robbery of a Bureau De Change operator carrying $750,000.
His exceptional integrity earned him multiple honors. The Police Service Commission elevated him from Chief Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner of Police in November 2022. Additionally, then-President Muhammadu Buhari presented him with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award, following a recommendation from Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.
