Commuters traveling on the Old Lagos-Abeokuta Road have raised their voices against the deplorable state of the road, pleading for urgent government intervention to address the ongoing challenges. Of particular interest is the Kola bus stop and U-turn leading to Abule Egba. Commuters have voiced their grievances concerning alleged extortion by members of the Lagos State Tax Force and police officers. Furthermore, concerning the reasons behind motorists flouting traffic regulations in the area, the Titansloaded news team captured video footage to shed light on the situation.
In recent days, incidents of extortion by law enforcement officers have surfaced, causing frustration and anger among motorists. The grievances have been exacerbated by the perilous condition of one segment of the road, rendering it nearly impassable. This dilapidated road has resulted in heavy-duty trucks toppling over, leading to severe traffic congestion and commuter distress.
One victim, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted his harrowing experience when his vehicle was apprehended near the Kola bus stop. Despite his repeated pleas, he claimed the officers demanded an exorbitant sum of ₦300,000 for the release of his vehicle or threatened to impound it. He appealed to the government to address this ongoing issue, as vehicles are regularly apprehended in an area where the road’s condition is deplorable.
Similar reports of excessive financial demands for the release of impounded vehicles have emerged around the Ilepo Bus stop, suggesting a pattern of alleged misconduct among some law enforcement personnel.
Expressing their dissatisfaction with the current situation, a group of concerned motorists and residents urged the Lagos State government to take swift action to remedy the extortion problem and address the dire condition of the road. They emphasized the need to protect the rights and financial well-being of citizens and to ensure safe and efficient traffic management in the area.
The recurring incidents of extortion and the hazardous road conditions have sparked outrage among the affected individuals, leading them to demand immediate intervention from the Lagos State government. As these issues persist, the hope remains that the concerns raised by the community will reach the appropriate authorities and bring about positive change.
