The Edo State Police Command has apprehended the husband of Toluige Babalola, the mother of Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, a famous boy who gained widespread recognition in 2020 for his “Mummy, calm down” video where he advised his mother to stay calm during a scolding. Mr. Babalola is currently under detention in connection with the tragic suicide of his wife.
According to Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, the husband reported the incident to the police. The late Mrs. Babalola, employed as a medicine distributor in Benin City, took her own life by hanging, as disclosed by her husband upon returning from the market. Shockingly, the incident occurred in the presence of their one-year-old child. The couple has three children in total.
Nwabuzor stated that the case would be transferred to the homicide section of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. The tragic news of Mrs. Babalola’s suicide emerged on Tuesday through undisclosed sources.
Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola gained fame in 2020 after a video of him went viral, catching the attention of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who later met with the young boy. The incident also inspired a part of the governor’s Eid-el-Kabir message to the Muslim community. Oreofeoluwa, who expressed his aspiration to become a police officer to combat corruption in Nigeria, made his debut in the 2021 film “Swallow” directed by Kunle Afolayan.
