Vice President’s N15 Billion Residence Remains Vacant Amid Security Concerns
Vice President Kashim Shettima has not moved into his newly constructed official residence in Abuja, despite its completion and handover nearly a year ago. The residence, which cost approximately N15 billion to build, was officially commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 7, 2024.
During a recent inspection on January 31, 2025, the premises appeared largely deserted, with only a handful of plainclothes security personnel guarding the property.
According to sources close to the matter, security considerations are the primary reason for the delayed occupancy. Insiders have specifically pointed to concerns about the residence’s location, suggesting it may be unsuitable for a high-ranking government official of the Vice President’s stature.
When contacted for comment, the Vice President’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, was unavailable. However, an anonymous official from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) confirmed that all construction aspects under their jurisdiction have been completed, stating, “The project was handed over to the Presidency on the same day it was commissioned.”
The FCDA, operating under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration, was responsible for overseeing the project’s implementation.
