Sallah Day has been declared after Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the crescent moon, which signifies the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The announcement was recently made by Haramain Sharifain on his X account, and he confirmed that Dhul Hijjah 1446 will start on the 28th of May, 2025.
The social media post also highlighted vital dates for the upcoming Islamic observances, including the Day of Arafah, which holds huge spiritual significance as pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat for the climax of Hajj, falling on the 5th of June.
The next day, June 6, Eid-el-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, which celebrates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) faith and readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah, will kick off.
Sharifain also shared a supplication often recited by pilgrims entering a state of ihram: “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.” (Translation: “Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You, and You have no partner.”)
This announcement prepares Muslims all over the world to align their plans for this sacred period, which includes communal prayers, acts of charity, Hajj and the symbolic sacrifice of livestock.
