Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, played a pivotal role in facilitating the distribution of relief materials to the first batch of beneficiaries from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The symbolic presentation marked the commencement of the statewide distribution, taking place at the Trade Fair Complex in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
This humanitarian effort stems from Senator Daniel’s motion raised on July 5 at the National Assembly, prompting NEMA’s subsequent assessment visit in August to areas affected by floods in Sagamu and Ijebu.
The distribution was executed by South West zonal officials of NEMA, arriving from Ibadan and overseen by leaders and coordinators of the non-governmental organization established by Senator Daniel, Gateway Movement. The initiative draws support from all nine local government council areas under the Ogun East Senatorial District.
Hon. John Obafemi, former ALGON Chairman in Ogun State, former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and Deputy Director General of the Gateway Movement, represented Senator Daniel at the ceremony. Also present was Dr. Babatunde Onadeko, Chief of Staff to Senator Daniel.
The event garnered additional significance with the presence of Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Ogun State, and the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Special Duties. As part of the broader initiative, the remaining relief items will be distributed across all local government council areas to provide aid to flood victims in the region.
