Delta State has become the first state in Nigeria to officially launch the Scouts for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative, in an historic ceremony at West End Mixed Secondary School. This pioneering strategy aims to engage youngsters in the development of their communities while equipping them with essential skills such as courage, kindness, community service, leadership, problem-solving, and brotherhood.
The event saw the investiture of Diana Ereyitomi Eyo-Enoette, the Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, as the State Headquarters Commissioner for Scouts for SDGs in Delta State. In her new role, Eyo-Enoette will be at the forefront of driving this initiative across the state.
Ms. Orode Uduaghan, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, was also honored at the ceremony. Decorated as the Ambassador Scouts for SDGs, Uduaghan highlighted Delta State’s commitment to tailoring the SDG indicators to local needs. She emphasized the importance of analyzing possible linkages and creating a “Delta-oriented” approach to effectively localize and implement Agenda 2030.
This milestone underscores Delta State’s dedication to the SDGs and reflects Governor Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori’s commitment to empowering future generations. The launch of Scouts for SDGs represents a significant step forward in integrating youth into sustainable development efforts, ensuring they play a crucial role in shaping a better future for their communities.
