A car in the convoy of Nigeria’s first lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has taken the life of a 7-year-old girl named Saratu Lawal in Akure, Ondo State.
SaharaReporters recently revealed that while Bola Tinubu‘s wife was driving from the airport to the venue where the flagging off of the South-West leg of the Renewed Hope Initiative was scheduled to take place, a butter-coloured Hilux in her convoy hit Saratu Lawal around Oba Ile area of the state.
According to reports, the tragic incident happened just before the popular Oba Ile Central Mosque on Thursday, 17th April, 2025, and the sudden impact eventually ended the life of the child despite frantic efforts to keep her alive.
“A seven years old girl by name Saratu Lawal, and a pupil of Islamiyar Arabic School, Shasha, was knocked down by a butter coloured hilux in the government convoy of her Excellency, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is on official visit to Ondo State.
The incident occurred today, Thursday 17th April, 2025, in Oba Ile, before the Oba Ile Central Mosque.
It claimed the life of the child as every effort to save her could not yield the desired result even when she was rushed to the primary healthcare in Oba Ile,” a source said.
SaharaReporters disclosed that the body of the child has since been taken to her family for quick burial as she was a Muslim, and Late Saratu’s father, Malam Lawali, who is an Oba Ile market trader, revealed that he has left the entire incident for God to judge during a brief interview.
It must be noted that several phone calls were made by SaharaReporters to Ondo Police command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, after the sad development, but he is yet to answer or return any of them. Even SMSes sent to his personal line have received no response as at the time of this report.
Remi Tinubu arrived Akure on Thursday to kickstart the South-West leg of the Renewed Hope Initiative that is meant to better the lives of women and young girls across Nigeria, while distributing a minimum of 10,000 professional kits, including crocs and scrubs, to active nurses and midwives saving lives in the South-West region.
