African leader, Prof. Muhammad-Bande has said that there is an urgent need to equip the next generation with agricultural skills.
He recently shared that African youths must be fully empowered to drive structural transformation across the continent.
This was recently discussed at a virtual global forum hosted by the former Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the 74th President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, with the theme, “Africa Rising” on Africa Day 2025.
Prof. Muhammad stated that Africa cannot be seen as a passive participant in global affairs because the continent has always been a major contributor to world civilizations.
Emphasizing the importance of Agenda 2063, the African Union’s strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development, he revealed that there must be an intentional continental focus on self-reliance and long-term investments in education, science, and innovation.
Highlighting the key role African youths have to play, he maintained that the next generation must be highly skilled in important sectors like agriculture and healthcare, because the future of Africa is very dependent on that.
On migration, Prof. Muhammad disclosed that while migrating to other countries is not a new thing in Africa, the governments across the continent must step up their efforts to ensurethat staying at home is just as rewarding as finding greener pastures.
Rounding up by advocating for better interventions by the African Union and regional partners, he reiterated the need for the continent to align global responses to climate change with its own realities and priorities.
