Popular Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie has urged young women to never marry out of desperation.
She recently appealed to ladies to think carefully before choosing a life partner.
Speaking at a recent student event, Chimamanda revealed that marrying due to societal pressure never ends well and must be avoided.
According to her, the importance of choosing a kind and supportive partner cannot be overemphasised because marriage is a lifelong commitment.
She stated that women should learn to never settle when it comes to marriage because whoever they decide to spend the rest of their lives with must be worth it.
“It’s really important who you choose. It’s really important. Young women, choose wisely.
Sometimes as young women, you can tell that the person you’re with is not really a good person, but you’re desperate to get married.
You’re desperate to have somebody who’s your partner. Don’t settle. Be very careful who you choose,” she said.
Adichie further noted that a husband ends up making a huge difference in the life of his wife; therefore, women cannot afford to make mistakes when choosing.
She concluded by saying that there are still good men left in this world, and women just need to look carefully.
“The person you choose as your life partner will make a huge difference in your life.
If you choose somebody who’s kind, supportive, it will make all the difference. So I can tell you that I chose well, there are some good men left,” she added.
