The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that offering former President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic ticket to contest the 2027 presidential election is a possibility.
The party recently revealed that GEJ is more than qualified to run for president again with the party’s ticket.
Speaking during an exclusive interview in Abuja, the PDP’s National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyengikuro, shared that Jonathan’s influence within the party and the nation’s politics cannot be overemphasised.
According to him, GEJ is not just a former president; he is the obvious leader of the People’s Democratic Party right now, alongside Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Is he not the best candidate for us at this moment? He is not just a former president; he is the leader of the party now. Aside from [former President Olusegun] Obasanjo, the next person in line is him. Goodluck Jonathan is the national leader of this party,” he said.
Daniel further noted that PDP is currently trying to bring GEJ back into its fold as part of ongoing efforts to tackle Nigeria’s growing political and economic challenges.
He concluded by saying that Jonathan’s return would help to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Nigeria has reached a point where we need to salvage this country — for our generation and for those to come. When we talk about the Southern Presidency, someone like Goodluck Jonathan stands out.
For me, that’s what I firmly stand for. You can quote me anywhere — I want him to come. An automatic ticket for him, as it stands now. Because we must salvage both this party and the nation.
These are the two main individuals I stand for: Goodluck Jonathan and Seyi Makinde,” he added.
