The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has increased the cost of acquiring the Nigerian international passport from N50,000 to N100,000 for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity.
The service recently revealed that a 64-page passport with 10-year validity, which used to be sold for N100,000, will now cost N200,000.
The increment will take effect from the 1st of September, 2025.
Speaking via a press statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) disclosed that the upward review will help to enhance the quality and standard of its services.
The agency confirmed that the price adjustment will only affect passport applications made in Nigeria.
“In a bid to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Passport, the Nigeria Immigration Service hereby announces an upward review of Nigerian Standard Passport fees, set to take effect on 1st September, 2025,” it read.
Recall that in 2024, the federal government increased the price of a 32-page passport with 5 years of validity by 42% from N35,000 to N50,000, with the price for a 64-page passport with 10 years of validity also increasing by 33% from N75,000 to N100,000.
Despite the 100% increase in the fee for Nigerians at home, the cost for Nigerians in the diaspora stays the same.
“Meanwhile, Nigerian Passport Application fees made by Nigerians in diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for a 32-page with 5-year validity and $230 for a 64-page with 10-year validity,” it continued.
The Immigration Service vowed to keep up with quality service delivery towards passport production.
“The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure services are accessible to all Nigerians,” it added.
