Popular singer Iyanya has called for more empathy towards celebrities. He recently reminded fans that fame does not exempt Nigerian celebrities from emotional struggles.
In a post shared on X, the “Kukere” crooner reflected on the pressures of fame, stating that life as a celebrity is a double-edged sword.
According to him, public figures are human beings like everyone else with deep feelings and struggles, so fans should learn to stop treating them like robots.
“We need to understand that celebs are humans with deep feelings and struggles like everyone else.
Beyond the media glamorisation of their lives and personalities is a human simply asking and wishing and yearning to be human like the rest of us. It is a double-edged sword,” he wrote.
Iyanya further noted that male celebrities, in particular, often face even greater internal struggles due to societal expectations that frown against vulnerability.
He concluded by urging his male colleagues to learn to ask for help when they are struggling without the fear of coming off as weak.
“For male celebrities, perhaps there may be an even deeper level of struggle to come back up when one has hit a low — because men are wired to be stoic, not show vulnerability, not ask for help or they’d be considered weak,” he added.
