The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat has decisively intervened in the controversial suspension of Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel, firmly overruling the party’s Ogun State chapter and declaring the former Governor a bona fide member of the party.
In a formal communication dated November 17, 2025, and personally signed by the APC National Secretary, Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the national body explicitly directed the Ogun State Chairman to cease all public correspondence regarding Daniel’s status.
The letter obtained by our correspondent stressed that any suspension of a high-ranking national officer, like a serving Senator, must be ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC) as provided by the party’s constitution.
“Please take note that the National Working Committee (NWC) is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution… until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party,” the letter stated.
This intervention comes barely a week after leaders of the party, Ogun East, held a World Press Conference to condemn the series of attacks meted out to Daniel by operatives of the Ogun State Government. The leaders from the nine Local Governments constituting the senatorial district opined that the alleged “anti-party activities” upon which Senator Daniel is being purportedly suspended are a smokescreen for a power tussle connected to the 2027 general elections.
The Senator’s camp has repeatedly stated that the suspension was politically motivated to clear the path for a senatorial bid by the incumbent state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. Governor Abiodun, whose second term will expire in 2027, is widely rumoured to be eyeing the Ogun East Senatorial District seat, a position currently occupied by Senator Daniel.
A request for comments by the Daniel camp went unattended, while a spokesperson for the Ogun APC chapter could not be immediately reached for their reaction.
