Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo of the Fusengbuwa Royal House has made an appeal to supporters and well-wishers to respect the traditional succession process for the selection of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In a statement released recently, Onabanjo expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support, prayers, and goodwill messages received from friends, associates, and well-wishers across various platforms. While acknowledging feeling honored and humbled by the confidence shown by many, he emphasized the importance of maintaining the sanctity of Ijebu customs.
The royal prince stressed that the selection process for the Awujale is a sacred and time-honored tradition governed by established customs. Citing the Yoruba saying “ilufẹ́mil’óyè” (it is the town that bestows the crown), Onabanjo made a humble appeal to supporters and members of the public to refrain from referring to him as the Awujale or circulating materials suggesting that a conclusion has already been reached.
“In the interest of preserving the sanctity, dignity, and integrity of Ijebu tradition, I respectfully urge all concerned to allow the rightful processes to take their course,” Onabanjo stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the values, unity, and heritage of Ijebuland while assuring everyone of his utmost respect for tradition, peace, and harmony within the kingdom.
