Delta State Police Command has detained a 28-year-old man for allegedly killing his childhood friend following a dispute over a $1,000 internet fraud transaction.
The incident occurred on January 21, 2026, in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, according to Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe.
The suspect, identified as Oghenegare, is being held at the state command headquarters in Asaba. Police say both he and the victim, Courage, were involved in internet fraud activities when a disagreement arose over a transaction.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly struck the victim on the head, resulting in his death.
In a video statement, Oghenegare admitted that the deceased was his childhood friend and claimed the victim had excluded him from the transaction process.
Edafe expressed concern over the rising number of homicides in the state, attributing many cases to anger management issues, substance abuse, and conflicts over matters that could have been resolved peacefully.
