Bayelsa State has a new deputy governor following the confirmation of Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe by the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
Governor Douye Diri had nominated Akpe, who was serving as Chief of Staff at the Government House, to fill the vacancy created by the death of former Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on December 11, 2025.
The assembly’s approval ends months of speculation surrounding who would succeed Ewhrudjakpo in the position.
Akpe, who holds a doctorate degree and previously served as Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, hails from Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area — the same community as his predecessor. He is expected to bring a blend of legislative experience and academic background to the deputy governorship role.
