An Ikorodu-based entrepreneur, Prince Segun Shonubi, has sponsored over 300 underprivileged students for the 2026 examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), urging well-meaning Nigerians to complement government efforts in empowering young people through education.
Shonubi made the call while distributing free application forms to beneficiaries across Ikorodu and neighbouring communities. According to a statement released on Monday, the initiative was fully funded by the entrepreneur to relieve families struggling with the cost of registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The presentation ceremony drew students, parents, community leaders and youth stakeholders, many of whom described the gesture as timely and impactful. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude and renewed hope, noting that the support had removed a major financial barrier to their academic aspirations.
Explaining the motivation behind the intervention, Shonubi stressed that investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to secure the future of any society. He said the sponsorship was driven by compassion and a firm belief in the transformative power of learning.
“Our young people hold the future of this community. When financial challenges threaten their dreams, we must step in. This is more than paying for examination forms; it is about restoring confidence and sustaining hope,” he said, noting that JAMB registration fees often pose a significant hurdle for many families.
Parents of the beneficiaries described the support as a major relief amid prevailing economic difficulties, with some admitting they had been uncertain about how to raise the registration fees before the intervention.
Community leaders commended Shonubi’s commitment to grassroots development, describing the sponsorship of over 300 students as both generous and strategic in promoting human capital development. Education advocates also observed that empowering students at this stage could produce future professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders who will contribute meaningfully to society.
As the beneficiaries prepare for their examinations, there is growing optimism that the opportunity will translate into academic success and long-term progress for the students and the Ikorodu community at large.
