The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has described the ongoing internal crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “family dispute that has gone sour,” urging the warring factions to resolve their differences amicably.
Presiding Justice Biobele Georgewill made the remarks while hearing appeals arising from conflicting rulings by the Federal High Court and the Oyo State High Court over the PDP’s Ibadan convention.
The development follows a Motion on Notice filed on March 4, 2026, by the appellant’s counsel, Mr. Fredrick Ladapo, seeking withdrawal of the appeal.
Justice Georgewill encouraged both parties to clarify the pending applications and explore the opportunity for an out-of-court settlement. “With the notice of withdrawal, the matter could be settled,” he said.
The court directed the factions to meet with their lawyers, negotiate, and present agreed terms, which could then be adopted as the court’s judgment.
The matter has been adjourned until March 11, 2026, to allow the parties to report back on the outcome of their discussions. Justice Georgewill warned that if an amicable resolution is not reached, the court would either continue with the appeal hearing or transfer the case to Abuja for consolidation with related appeals.
