The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard at her home in Owode-Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the principal suspect confessed that the killings were meant to "teach her a lesson" over poor pay. Ojajuni said a report was received at Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026, after neighbours noticed the front door of Oyesiku's residence had been partially damaged and the security post locked. Officers who responded found Oyesiku lying in a pool of blood in her living room, while her guard, Pelumi Adetayo, 38, was discovered dead inside the security house. A Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased was also missing from the compound. Through intelligence gathering and technical tracking, operatives recovered the vehicle on June 22 at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State. The ignition key had been removed and the number plates detached, but detectives found the registration plate hidden under one of the seats, confirming the vehicle as Oyesiku's property. A handwritten note recovered from the crime scene was subjected to forensic analysis, generating leads that helped trace the suspects. The principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer. During interrogation, Philip allegedly admitted to planning and coordinating the attack after accumulating grievances while working as a security guard in Oyesiku's employment. He told investigators that the killings were motivated by her low salary and her refusal to give him money on demand. He further stated that he recruited Ayoola and Obafunsho to carry out the attack on June 20, 2026. According to police, the suspects first overpowered Adetayo and used him to gain entry into the residence before attacking Oyesiku. A broken hammer, cutlass, plank, and black pen were recovered as exhibits. Ojajuni said investigation is ongoing and that all suspects would be charged in court.

ASUU Raises Fresh Strike Threat Over Unpaid Salaries, Unfulfilled Agreements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on another nationwide strike over the alleged failure of the Federal Government to fully implement the agreement reached with the union in December 2025.

The union accused the government of partially executing the agreement while leaving several key issues unresolved, including unpaid salaries and outstanding allowances owed to university lecturers.

The warning was issued after ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Modibbo Adama University.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, ASUU President, Christopher Piwuna, listed the unresolved concerns to include the withholding of three-and-a-half months’ salaries, unpaid promotion arrears, salary shortfalls linked to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), unremitted third-party deductions, and unpaid arrears from the 25 to 35 per cent wage award.

Piwuna said the continued delay in resolving the issues was increasing frustration among lecturers across Nigerian universities and could trigger another round of industrial action if urgent steps are not taken.

According to him, the government’s perceived lack of commitment to lecturers’ welfare has created growing anger within the academic community.

He appealed to both the Federal and state governments to honour the agreement reached with ASUU and clear all outstanding entitlements in order to prevent disruption in the university system.

The ASUU president added that the union was still willing to engage the government through dialogue but disclosed that NEC would reconvene in the coming weeks to assess the situation and determine the next course of action if there is no meaningful progress.
