The Presidency has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to eradicate terrorism and other forms of violent crime across Nigeria, declaring that insurgents have only two options: surrender or face elimination.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, praised the efforts of the nation’s security forces in combating terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and other criminal groups operating across the country.
Reacting to the Nigerian Army’s announcement of the arrest of a suspected high-profile arms trafficker linked to an interstate illegal weapons network, Dare described recent military gains as significant achievements that should be recognized as part of the security successes recorded under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, the government remains resolute in its fight against insecurity and will not yield to pressure from terrorist groups.
“These victories, arrests and sustained operations against terrorists and kidnappers by our troops deserve recognition as part of the security progress made under this administration. President Tinubu has made it clear that Nigeria will not surrender. The terrorists must either surrender or be decisively defeated,” Dare stated in a post on his X account.
His remarks come amid renewed efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and curb the flow of illegal arms across the country.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu recently expressed shock and sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while being held captive by terrorists in Katsina State.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President noted that the retired military officer was travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by the attackers.
The statement further stressed that despite the actions of the terrorists, the Federal Government would not bow to demands for the release of detained insurgents in exchange for hostages, maintaining its firm stance against terrorism and criminality.
