Former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has announced the death of his longtime aide, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zamani Tanko, following a tragic road accident in Abuja.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Dickson described the late Tanko as a loyal aide, trusted associate, and valued member of his family.
According to the senator, he was informed on Wednesday morning that Tanko had been involved in a serious road accident after his vehicle reportedly collided with a truck in Abuja. The retired police officer reportedly lost consciousness at the scene and was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Dickson disclosed that members of his team quickly responded and transferred Tanko to the National Hospital Abuja, where efforts were made to provide immediate medical care. The senator said he later joined them at the hospital and ensured that urgent treatment arrangements were put in place.
Despite undergoing surgery performed by a team of specialists, Tanko succumbed to his injuries later that day.
Expressing his grief, Dickson said the loss had left him, his family, and members of his staff deeply devastated.
Paying tribute to the deceased, the senator praised Tanko’s dedication and years of service, noting that he served in the Nigeria Police Force for 35 years before joining his personal staff, where he handled various responsibilities alongside security duties.
Dickson said Tanko spent the last 15 years working closely with him and had grown beyond the role of an aide to become a trusted confidant and family member. He added that members of his family fondly referred to him as “Uncle Zamani” and were deeply saddened by his passing.
The senator extended his appreciation for Tanko’s loyalty, commitment to public service, and unwavering support throughout the years, describing his death as a painful loss to both his family and staff.
