The Lagos State Government has dismissed a viral video showing people allegedly living under the Oja Oba Bridge, describing the footage as old and unrelated to the current situation at the location.
The state government said the video, which has been widely circulated on social media, was recorded about two years ago but is being presented as a recent development.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on X after his attention was drawn to the video.
Wahab explained that the footage does not reflect the present condition of the area and urged members of the public to disregard claims suggesting that people are currently living under the bridge.
He said, “I wish to clarify that the video is an old recording, taken approximately two years ago, and does not reflect the current situation at the location.”
The commissioner also appealed to bloggers, influencers and media organisations to verify information before publishing or sharing content online.
According to him, circulating outdated or misleading materials could create unnecessary fear among residents and place additional pressure on government agencies.
Wahab reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and environmentally sustainable Lagos.
He further urged residents to support the government by sharing only accurate and verified information about developments across the state.
