Five people have been killed and seven others injured after a Russian drone struck a passenger minibus in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.
The attack reportedly occurred in the Nikopol district, an area close to the southern frontline, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Hanzha, said the five victims died at the scene, while the seven injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the incident, describing the strike as an “atrocity” and arguing that there was no military justification for attacking the vehicle.
In a statement posted on X, Zelenskyy said Russian attacks on Ukraine’s logistics networks and critical infrastructure had continued.
He also disclosed that a passenger train came under attack in the Mykolaiv region on Wednesday. The incident reportedly damaged a railway station and a diesel locomotive.
According to Zelenskyy, nearly 170 passengers on board the train were evacuated before the attack. He added that an electric locomotive in Kovel, in northwestern Ukraine, was also reportedly struck.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, said Russian attacks on the country’s railway infrastructure had damaged or destroyed more than 500 locomotives since the war began.
Sybiha said more than half of the reported attacks had occurred in 2026, describing them as systematic strikes aimed at disrupting transportation and logistics across Ukraine.
He appealed to Ukraine’s international partners to assist in replacing damaged locomotives by providing compatible trains and financial support.
The latest incidents involving civilian transport came days after Ukrainian officials said former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and several European diplomats may have been targeted in a drone attack involving a train.
Reports indicated that the train carrying Johnson left earlier than originally scheduled, while another train was later attacked.
Ukrainian authorities have increasingly adjusted train schedules and departure times for journeys involving senior officials and foreign delegations, in an effort to make their movements more difficult to track.
The railway route reportedly used by Johnson is regularly travelled by foreign delegations moving between Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine and was said to be less than two miles from the Polish border.
