President Bola Tinubu has said the Nigerian Army has set up new formations in Osun, Kebbi, Oyo and Zamfara States, as part of efforts to place troops nearer to vulnerable communities.
In a post on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, on Sunday, the President said the formations were operationalised this week, strengthening the military’s ability to respond swiftly when citizens are under threat.
He added that work is being fast-tracked on new barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi States, while the one in Osun has been completed.
Tinubu also spoke on the welfare of military personnel, saying he was glad the recent pay increase was making a difference for servicemen, servicewomen and their families.
“As our Armed Forces stand watch over Nigeria, my duty as Commander-in-Chief is to ensure they have the resources and support to do their job, and that Nigeria stands firmly behind the families waiting for them at home,” he wrote.
He noted that as more is demanded of those in uniform, more must be done to support them and their families, adding that “every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too.”
