Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has commended Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for what he described as significant infrastructural development across the state.
Zulum spoke on Sunday during the commissioning of a newly completed 41-kilometre Shango-Sarkin Yaki-Abuja/Bula-Bomala-Dinawa-Alagarno-Kalajanga-Tappi Road in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The road is one of several projects completed under the Network-1100 infrastructure programme of the Yahaya administration.
The 41-kilometre road links several communities along the Gombe-Tappi corridor and connects to Tappi on the Gombe-Kano Highway. The project is expected to improve transportation between Gombe metropolis and rural communities while providing better access to farmlands, markets and other economic activities.
Other projects commissioned during Zulum’s visit included the 30-kilometre Kwanan Gerkwami-Tsangayari-Gerkwami-Daniya-Daban Fulani Road and the 15-kilometre Kurba-Titi-Tsangayari Road, with a spur to Kundulum. The three-span Titi-Kurba Bridge was also commissioned.
Together, the road projects cover more than 86 kilometres.
Zulum said the projects would contribute to economic growth by improving connectivity and making it easier for farmers and other residents in rural communities to access markets and essential services.
He noted that roads linking urban centres with rural communities would create more opportunities for agricultural production and improve the livelihoods of residents.
The Borno governor also praised Yahaya for what he described as an unprecedented level of infrastructure development in Gombe State.
Zulum said he was impressed by the scale of projects executed by the Gombe government, adding that he had not realised the extent of development achieved until he visited the state and inspected the projects.
He described Yahaya as a governor known for his commitment to development and urged the people of Gombe to support and appreciate the administration’s efforts.
Responding, Yahaya said the commissioned roads were strategically constructed to connect communities, improve movement and unlock the economic potential of areas along the various corridors.
He said the projects formed part of his administration’s continued investment in critical infrastructure aimed at improving living conditions and expanding economic opportunities across the state.
According to him, the Network-1100 programme was designed to construct approximately 1,100 kilometres of roads across Gombe State’s 11 local government areas.
Yahaya disclosed that more than 1,000 kilometres of roads had already been constructed as his administration entered the final phase of its tenure.
He said the expanded road network would make the transportation of people and agricultural produce easier, improve access to markets and public services, and boost economic activities across the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Gombe State Ministry of Works, Danladi Adamu, provided details of the various projects during the commissioning ceremonies.
