Following his appointment, speculation arose when Owoade visited Oyo town and subsequently traveled to Canada, leading to unfounded speculation about his commitment to the traditional coronation process.
Responding to these rumors, Bode Durojaiye, a key member of the Alaafin’s team, strongly condemned the misleading narrative. “This headline is designed to mislead the public and misrepresent the esteemed Alaafin throne,” Durojaiye stated.
He clarified several key points:
- The customary coronation activities are officially scheduled for April 4, 2025.
- Owoade’s trip to Canada was a planned, temporary absence to manage his professional commitments.
- The state government has been fully informed of and involved in the monarch’s movements.
“Oba Owoade only returned to his Canada base to officially put things in proper order in his workplaces and other engagements,” Durojaiye explained. He assured the people of Oyo that the monarch would return in time for the scheduled traditional rites.
Governor Seyi Makinde has officially confirmed April 4, 2025, as the coronation date for Owoade, who will become the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. This was confirmed by the State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
