Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has said that something is broken at the club.
This is coming after Ruben Amorim’s post-game statements after the shock defeat to Grimsby Town.
Reacting, Rooney revealed that the manager’s words after MUFC’s Carabao Cup exit were very concerning.
According to him, the loss was very damning for the players, and hearing Ruben Amorim say those things about their performance must have made them feel even worse.
He stated that something is clearly not right at Old Trafford, and it’s becoming very worrying after every match.
“The biggest concern is the manager’s words after the game were damning on the players. Being in a position where I’ve been in that dressing room, if your manager comes out with those words, there’s something broken.
There’s something not right. That’s clear. The manager said that after the game and that’s clear for everyone to see. Even though it’s only three games into the season it’s getting to a point where it’s like, ‘what is going on?'” he said.
Rooney further noted that he can’t say for sure if any other top manager would be willing to replace Amorim if he is sacked by the club.
He concluded by saying that people shouldn’t forget that Ruben is a young manager who is trying to cope with the pressure at MUFC.
“The problem we’ve got now is who would want to take it [manager’s job]? Which is crazy to say. You’ve got one of the biggest clubs in the world and you’re probably just sitting there thinking… not now.
We forget he’s 40, he’s a young manager. Manchester United is so different to where he’s been before.
There’s the media team, the commercial team, the fans, it’s completely different.
There’s a pressure with United which he will never have felt before. When you’re not winning games, that starts to get to you. It looks like this was a breaking point for him,” he added.
