Popular singer 2face Idibia has finally spoken in public about his divorce from Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay.
This is coming months after the couple confirmed their separation in January, and fans have been reacting.
Speaking during the latest episode of the 234 Mzansi Podcast hosted by Nedu, 2face opened up about the emotional toll of the split, revealing that despite their best efforts, the marriage could not be saved.
According to him, even though he does not intend to speak about the precise reason their marriage failed, he just wants Nigerians to know that they both gave it their best.
2face stated that while Annie Idibia is an amazing woman, their union had clearly reached its end.
“I think both of us gave it our best. And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly. Annie and I have our own understanding. She’s amazing, it just wasn’t working anymore,” he said.
The musician further noted that despite being unable to go into the specifics, the decision to go their separate ways was not taken lightly.
He emphasised the importance of personal peace over public perception, stressing that couples should never feel compelled to stay in unhappy relationships just to meet societal expectations.
2baba concluded by saying that while he’ll always encourage couples to fix their failing marriage, if it is beyond repair, it is better to face the reality.
“I think you should try to fix your marriage, but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything. Only people in the marriage know exactly what they’re feeling.
It’s always good not to torture yourself and not to allow society or people to dictate your feelings. Because this thing called living in bondage is real — and many people have gone to their graves as very sad people,” he added.
