The Nafiu Bala-led faction of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has disowned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s party registration in Adamawa. The coalition recently insisted that Atiku is not yet a recognised member of the party.
Reacting after Atiku publicly collected his ADC membership card at Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, the ADC Director of Media and Public Affairs, Christopher Okechukwu, declared that the registration exercise in Adamawa was not legitimate.
According to him, Atiku’s registration clearly violated internal procedures, and that automatically renders it null and void.
He stated that the registration was carried about by individuals who are not recognized by the ADC as members.
“This registration was conducted by individuals not recognised by the ADC’s National Headquarters and therefore lacked authority to register new members.
We have consistently urged Mr Abubakar to complete his registration with the duly constituted and authentic party executives in his locality, a step he has yet to take,” he said.
The faction further warned that Atiku could be trying to leverage the ADC while he waits for reconciliation with the Peoples Democratic Party.
Okechukwu concluded by appealing to the former Vice President to follow due process to be recognized as an official member of the party.
