To mark the release of his 5th studio album, “5IVE,” Davido hosted some of his super fans and media partners in Lagos State for an exclusive meet-and-greet that was powered by Spotify.
The gathering delivered unexpected behind-the-scenes look at the Afrobeats singer, with 5 lucky stans and 5 media partners afforded the opportunity to connect with Davido one-on-one.
Instead of just giving out invites, Spotify simply put the die-hard fans to the test by asking them a 5-question quiz related to the singer’s music, and everyone who passed earned their seat at the roundtable.
At the event, excited 30GB loyalists were treated to an afternoon of amazing music, interesting convos and memorable surprises. Ireculture as host made sure it was an energetic experience, while SmallztheDJ kept the crowd moving with a seamless Afrobeats-inspired playlist.
In true OBO style, a surprise twist was in the works. After teasing rumours about a potential no-show, the singer stormed into the venue, surprising his already entertained fans and sending them all into a frenzy. It was a moment that perfectly epitomizes who the brand Davido really is – Intriguing, Unpredictable and Entertaining.
According to Spotify’s Artist and Label Partnerships lead for West Africa, Victor Okapala, the gathering shows the power of good music, and how it can successfully bring fans and artists closer together if channelled in the right way.
He added that collaborating with Davido after the launch of his album highlights the global appeal Afrobeats has been enjoying in recent years, and he is sure the deep connection between singers and their fans will only continue to blossom.
“This event is a testament to the power of music to bring fans and artists closer together. Working with Davido on the release of 5IVE highlights the energy surrounding Afrobeats globally, and the deep connection we see between the artist and his fans,” he said.
Reflecting on 5ive’s reception thus far, Davido said that watching superstars like Beyoncé, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Rihanna made him realize the work artists have to put in to sustain their success in the music industry, and he intends to always go all out like them to preserve his legacy in Afrobeats.
“When you see artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Rihanna, you realise the work it takes to get there. This time, I wanted to go all out, and I’m seeing the results,” Davido said.
Every guest who attended the exclusive meet-and-greet was rewarded with a gift box featuring five fashion items from Nigerian streetwear brand Severe Nature, which was also in charge of designing the official “5IVE” merchandise.
As his latest musical project continues to do wonders on the charts, an intimate gathering like this further seals Davido’s position as one of the leading faces in the African music scene who will never stop fostering an irreplaceable connection between himself and his dedicated fanbase.
