Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that his players will give Liverpool a guard of honour after their recent EPL title win.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Maresca said that he believes that the experience of giving the EPL champions a guard of honour on Sunday can inspire his team to win the league in the near future.
According to him, winning the league in any season will always be a difficult task, so the Reds will deserve every applause they’ll be given by his players ahead of kick off.
“I don’t think we need that to understand how good it is to win the Premier League. We know that it’s something very nice.
But for sure when you are there, probably in their mind [the players] are thinking: ‘I would like one day to be there,'” he said.
Maresca believes that experienced players is what Chelsea is still lacking to reach the next level, and to close the gap between the club and the league winners, experience is badly needed.
He maintained that, however the current season ends for the Blues, the experience gained by his players this campaign will surely help with their development in years to come.
He singled out Colwill for showing good signs of growth when it comes to leadership on the pitch, while adding that his boys can only get better as they grow older.
“If you want to close the gap with this kind of club, for sure [you need experience].
Our team next season will be better in terms of experience, because this year has been one more year together.
For sure the ones that are growing like Levi [Colwill] for instance, growing a lot in terms of leadership, next year will be better and better.
Hopefully the ones that we have, they can grow and can help us in terms of experience,” he added.
