The Senate Committee on Navy, chaired by Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel has concluded a three-day oversight visit to naval formations in Rivers State, applauding the Nigerian Navy for its sustained efforts in tackling crude oil theft and other maritime crimes.
The committee toured key operational bases, including NNS Pathfinder and the Naval Forward Operating Base in Bonny. During the visit, it was revealed that “Operation Delta Sanity II” has, since January 2025, led to the destruction of over 103 illegal refinery sites and the arrest of 34 suspects involved in illegal activities.
Discussions also spotlighted the importance of advanced surveillance technology, particularly the Falcon Eye system, in bolstering maritime security across Nigeria’s coastal waters.
Senator Daniel commended the Navy’s leadership and personnel for their commitment and resilience, stressing that such efforts are instrumental in safeguarding the nation’s economic lifeline and sustaining Nigeria’s “zero-piracy” status, as recognised by the International Maritime Bureau.
The Senate Committee assured the Navy of swift legislative support to address issues related to funding and infrastructure, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the Navy’s capacity in the ongoing war against oil theft.
