Days after Nollywood actress, Bimbo Ademoye, called out Ghanaian TV stations for airing her movies without authorisation, the nation has assured the moviestar that the copyright violation would be addressed.
Speaking via his social media page, Ghanaian Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George wrote that Bimbo’s complaint would receive the urgent attention it deserves, and he’ll table the matter before those who can rectify the situation asap.
According to him, the talented actress should never doubt the commitment of the Ghanaian government to protect intellectual properties, especially because the country is aware of how much creative effort its owners put into creating all kinds of content to entertain their audience.
Sam reminded Bimbo that Ghana and Nigeria engaged in several profitable collaborations over the years, and such partnerships have always yielded positive results that end up bringing both nations closer to boosting Africa’s entertainment sector.
“My attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag. I would be raising the issue with my colleague minister responsible for overseeing television content.
I, however wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same. I believe Ghana and Nigeria have so much we can continue to collaborate on for our mutual benefit,” he said.
Also reacting, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, revealed that his management already working on putting a stop to the copyright infringement, and she would receive positive feedback from him in the coming weeks.
“Hi ma’am, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” he added.
