Residents of Agamo community in Ondo State have been thrown into mourning after gunmen reportedly killed their traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, during a violent attack on his palace.
The incident occurred on February 18, when armed men invaded the palace in the evening and allegedly attempted to abduct the monarch. Eyewitnesses said about 10 gunmen stormed the palace around 7:10 p.m., creating panic in the quiet community.
According to accounts from residents and family members, the attackers tried to forcefully take the monarch away but resorted to brutal violence when the attempt failed. The traditional ruler was reportedly beaten during the attack and later died from his injuries.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling on authorities to urgently address the growing security concerns in the area.
The wife of the late monarch, Veronica Falodun, described the incident as a terrifying experience, saying the attackers arrived suddenly and began dragging the king while firing gunshots.
She explained that the monarch had returned from Akure earlier that day and decided to sit outside the palace to rest before the attack occurred. According to her, the gunmen forced their way into the palace compound and attempted to take him away.
In the confusion that followed, she said she fled the scene after one of the attackers pursued her and fired shots in her direction, which narrowly missed her.
The monarch’s daughter, Folayemi, also recounted the incident, saying she saw the armed men entering the palace while she was returning from an errand. She said the attackers were shooting sporadically and moved around the compound before confronting the monarch.
Reacting to the killing, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that security agencies would track down those responsible and ensure they face justice.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has directed security agencies to intensify operations against criminal activities across the state.
The governor, through the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, expressed concern over the recent wave of kidnappings and violent attacks in parts of the state, promising a crackdown on those involved.
Despite the assurances from authorities, residents of Agamo community remain shaken by the killing of their monarch, as calls continue for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore security in the area.
