Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has apologised to his teammates and fans after picking up his second red card in four matches.
This is coming after the Blues lost 3-1 to Flamengo at the Club World Cup last night.
Speaking via his Instagram page, Jackson simply appealed to his fellow players and Chelsea supporters for letting the club down.
According to him, he is very angry with himself for his recent poor decisions on the pitch, and it is sad when he gets sent off despite working extra hard to consistently help the team.
The Senegalese striker said that the tackle that got him red-carded wasn’t intentional, insisting that he still does not understand how it happened.
He, however, took full responsibility for his actions, promising to reflect, change and come back stronger than ever.
“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down.
Another red card … and honestly, I’m so angry at myself. I work very hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don’t fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn’t intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way.
No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has warned the African forward to work on his behaviour henceforth.
He maintained that while Jackson was unlucky with his tackle, he needs to improve his attitude during matches to avoid punishable offences.
He concluded by saying Nicolas remains a very important player for Chelsea, and he’ll surely be missed in the next game.
“He’s very sad. He tried to win the ball, had the bad luck that he kicked his leg and that’s it. He’s a young player with a lot of quality but maybe needs to improve a little bit in these things.
But he has to learn. After the manager spoke, he said sorry, he didn’t do it on purpose. He’s a very important player for us, we miss him the next game but this is football,” he added.
