President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
He recently described the deceased as a revered monarch who embodied the ideals of intellect, service, and cultural pride.
Speaking via a press statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu revealed that he received news of the monarch’s demise “with deep shock.”
According to him, Oba Owolabi was not just a custodian of Ibadan’s rich history and culture; he was also a principled man who contributed greatly to the growth of education and governance in Nigeria.
“Oba Owolabi Olakulehin was not only a custodian of Ibadan’s rich history and culture but also a man of intellect and principle whose contributions extended beyond the palace into education, governance, and national development.
His passing is a significant loss to Ibadanland and the nation,” he said.
Describing the late Olubadan as a highly accomplished man of peace and a public servant, BAT emphasised that the monarch upheld the highest ideals of leadership, learning, and service.
Tinubu further noted that Oba Olakulehin’s wisdom was a stabilising force in Ibadanland while he ruled.
He concluded by saying that the late king would be remembered for upholding the honour and prestige of the highly revered position.
“Just last week, I received an invitation from the late Olubadan to his 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary celebrations. Shockingly, his death came days before the anniversary.
He will be remembered for upholding the honour and prestige of his highly revered stool,” he added.
