Mr. Oresajo Oyesanmi Michael, a distinguished officer with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has been elevated to the prestigious position of Deputy Commander of Narcotics by the federal agency.
The promotion ceremony took place on Thursday, where Oresajo was officially decorated with his new rank in recognition of his exceptional service and dedication to the fight against drug-related crimes.
The Ikorodu-born officer began his career with the NDLEA Ogun State Command in 2022. Despite his relatively short tenure with the command, his outstanding performance led to rapid advancement through the ranks. He was initially promoted to Assistant Commander of Narcotics, with the appointment backdated to 2020, placing him in the coveted commander cadre.
His latest promotion to Deputy Commander of Narcotics, which carries the equivalent rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, became effective January 1, 2025. The promotion followed a rigorous competitive interview and screening process, where Oresajo emerged as the top candidate for the position.
Following his promotion, Oresajo has been assigned to a national role as Deputy Commander, Operation and Training, at the Idiroko Special Area Command. This strategic posting reflects the agency’s confidence in his operational capabilities and leadership skills.
The promotion has been met with widespread celebration among Ikorodu residents, who view this achievement as a significant milestone for their community. Notably, this marks the first time an indigene of Ikorodu has attained such a senior position within the NDLEA, making it a historic moment for the local community.
Throughout his career, Oresajo has maintained strong ties with his hometown, actively collaborating with various individuals and community groups in Ikorodu to combat drug abuse and related criminal activities. His approach has been comprehensive, involving regular community engagement sessions, outreach programs, and educational lectures aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
Beyond his official duties, Oresajo has leveraged social media platforms to amplify anti-drug campaigns and advocate against social vices affecting the Ikorodu community. His consistent online presence and advocacy work have significantly contributed to community awareness and prevention efforts.
With his new position and expanded responsibilities, Oresajo is expected to bring his community-focused approach to a broader national stage, continuing the NDLEA’s mission to eliminate drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria. His promotion serves as an inspiration to other officers and demonstrates the agency’s commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence in service.
The appointment reinforces the NDLEA’s strategic focus on promoting experienced officers who have demonstrated both operational competence and community engagement skills in the ongoing war against drug-related crimes in Nigeria.
