The People’s Security Monitor has organised its annual security summit and recognition awards, bringing together security experts and stakeholders to develop comprehensive solutions to Nigeria’s escalating security challenges, including kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, religious extremism, gender-based violence, infrastructure vandalism, and youth unrest.
Superintendent of Corps Oluwaseun O. Abolurin, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos State Command, emerged as the Outstanding Public Relations Officer of the Year 2025 at the ceremony held at the Nigeria National Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja on Wednesday.
Acting Commandant General Hillary Kelechi Madu (retired) delivered a keynote address highlighting NSCDC’s critical role in Nigeria’s security architecture and personally presented Abolurin with the Distinguished Service Award of Excellence in Information Management and Public Trust.
Alhaji Isiaka Mustapha, Chairman of the Organising Committee, described the recognition as a testament to Abolurin’s professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public communication excellence within the NSCDC. He commended Abolurin’s exceptional skills in information management, media engagement, and security awareness promotion, which have significantly enhanced the Corps’ visibility and credibility in Lagos State.
“His leadership, humility, and consistent service reflect the values of dedication and patriotism that inspire colleagues and elevate the image of the Corps nationwide,” Mustapha stated during the award presentation.
Abolurin’s distinguished career includes convening the NSCDC Lagos PR Clinic and receiving multiple awards in criminology, security management, cooperative society administration, and youth leadership. He graduated as the overall best student from the first NSCDC Command and Staff College Course in Lamingo, Jos, Plateau State.
His international recognition includes public relations excellence awards from local and global organizations, with research collaborations involving reputable institutions such as the Centre for International Private Enterprise Development Initiative (CIPDI) USA and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). He holds fellowship and membership certificates from prestigious bodies including the International Centre for Security and Safety, International Society for Security Studies, and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
The keynote speaker, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service Samuel Olomode, emphasized institutional renewal as a fundamental solution to Nigeria’s security challenges. He outlined his administration’s commitment to robust welfare standards, comprehensive personnel training, and community sensitization programs.
Chairman Mustapha firmly rejected foreign intervention in addressing Nigeria’s security issues during his welcome address, instead advocating for national unity, institutional renewal, and collaborative efforts among stakeholders.
The summit convened senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Ministry of Information and Orientation, media organisations, and the business community to discuss emerging threats to national and global security.
The annual summit and recognition awards are organised by Alhaja Isiaka Mustapha, publisher of People’s Security Monitor Magazine, as part of ongoing efforts to advance national security dialogue in Nigeria.
