President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence in his government’s performance by giving himself a pass mark on the 2nd anniversary of his presidency.
He recently declared that the progress made thus far is all thanks to his positive policies and reforms.
In an address to Nigerians hours ago, President Tinubu wrote about the problems he inherited when he assumed office, crediting his administration for stabilizing the economy, aiding growth and laying the foundation for a prosperous Nigeria.
“The economic and general situation of the country I inherited required that we redirect the country’s affairs with a bold and new vision. Today, I proudly affirm that our economic reforms are working,” he shared.
The President referenced removing fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange windows as key decisions to guarantee a stable economy in Nigeria, reiterating that these reforms are required to ward off fiscal disaster and pave the way for a brighter future.
“Our economic reforms are working. We have stabilised our economy and are better positioned for growth and resilience against global shocks,” he wrote, citing a decrease in inflation and major investments in the oil and gas sector.
BAT highlighted enhanced debt servicing, an increase in revenue generation, including a boost in the tax-to-GDP ratio from 10% to over 13.5% by the end of 2024, and a narrowing fiscal deficit, as achievements that prove the effectiveness of his transparent policies and tax reforms.
Tinubu also emphasized efforts to reduce the cost of living, including the launch of VAT exemptions for essential goods and services like food, healthcare and education.
He made mention of his investments in road infrastructure, mechanised agriculture and renewable energy, while referencing his crucial initiatives to expand access to education and healthcare. He also bigged up the revitalisation of more than 1,000 primary health centres and the establishment of 6 cancer treatment centres as part of his Renewed Hope Health Agenda.
For education, the President said that his government has boosted infrastructure and launched a student loan scheme to support Nigerian students. According to him, youth empowerment programmes, including digital job aid and export incentives, feature heavily in his administration’s agenda.
He then appreciated the armed forces and security agencies for restoring peace in areas that used to be war zones, hailing them for guaranteeing safer highways and enabling farmers to go back to their lands.
“Our administration is committed to the security and safety of our people,” Tinubu said, confirming that enhanced collaboration among security agencies and better welfare of personnel is key to sustaining peace.
He then announced plans for the Motherland Festival, a worldwide event aimed at flaunting the country’s amazing cultural heritage and thriving creative industries. He also praised the key contributions of the Nigerian diaspora to national development, citing fresh policies to aid their engagement and investment.
As his government begins its 3rd year, President Tinubu declared that he is optimistic about the nation’s trajectory, reaffirming that the foundation for a better and more inclusive Nigeria has already been laid.
“The real impact of our governance objectives is beginning to take hold. The future is bright, and together, we will build a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria that we can all be proud of,” he added.
