The Silverbird Group has launched a formal investigation into Mr Nigeria Supranational, Ugochukwu Nwokolo, following allegations and counter-allegations stemming from his appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast.
The controversy erupted after Nwokolo claimed in an interview with Lucky Udu that podcast host Nedu Wazobia had pressured him into making controversial statements and mentioning social media personality VeryDarkMan to increase viewership. The podcast organizers strongly denied these accusations, stating that Nwokolo’s appearance was paid and that he had complete freedom to choose his discussion topics. They noted that he arrived with his own prepared talking points.
Expressing their dismay, the podcast team questioned Nwokolo’s suitability as Nigeria’s international representative, stating, “We are truly shocked that someone who lacks integrity and dignity, and is willing to spread falsehoods for fame, has been crowned by the prestigious Mr World Nigeria.”
In response to the growing controversy, Silverbird Group, the pageant organizers, released a statement on Friday emphasizing their commitment to transparency and integrity. The organization announced it would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, gathering evidence and reviewing all available information.
While the investigation is ongoing, Silverbird Group urged the public to maintain focus on the pageant’s positive impact in providing opportunities for young Nigerian men on the global stage. They also advocated for responsible journalism and fact-based discourse in covering the situation.
