The Federal Government has urged the striking health workers, especially the nurses, to call off the ongoing strike.
FG recently revealed that the contentious issues can be resolved through negotiations.
Speaking while briefing State House correspondents, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Alli Pate, shared that the Federal Government will meet with the leadership of the nurses and doctors on Friday to address the issues that led to the strike.
According to him, the issues that resulted in the strike have been looked into, and the government has taken steps to resolve the ongoing problems.
The Minister concluded by announcing the approval of the Oncology Centre in the University College Hospital, Ibadan, stressing that the Bola Tinubu government is driving a revolution in the health sector.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the NANNM-FHI, Comrade Morakinyo-Olajide Rilwa, has said that the union’s decision to go on strike will not change.
He recently maintained that the FG shouldn’t expect its position to budge unless their demands are met.
Emphasising that mere promises will not end the strike, he warned that the industrial action would continue until the government shows commitment.
He concluded by saying that a tentative agreement will not cut it this time, stressing that a total agreement is needed for the ongoing issues to be fully resolved.
“But we waited for a long time for all these demands to be met. So, this strike happens to be the last option we have to get the government’s attention.
We must see commitment; based on the insincerity and insensitivity on the part of the government, I believe some parts of these demands must be met before we can suspend the strike. We have to see serious commitment from the government before taking that step.
There is no tentative agreement. We have to reach an agreement before we can say the meeting is conclusive. There has to be an MoU signed by the stakeholders before we can say the meeting is conclusive,” he added.
