Nollywood actor Afeez Owo has revealed the secret of his 22-year marriage with Mide Martins. He recently shared insights into their relationship and the unique pet names they use for each other.
Speaking during an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Afeez said that he calls his wife “Iya Alekuleja,” while she refers to him as “Baba Elere.”
According to him, while they are not regular pet names used by Nigerian couples nowadays, it really works for him and his wife.
He stated that while most homes are filled with strict husbands and overly gentle wives, he and Mide have managed to find the right balance as a couple.
“I call her Iya Alekuleja, and she calls me Baba Elere. Those aren’t the usual pet names like dear or honey, but it works for us because of the closeness we share. Our marriage isn’t the kind where the husband has to be overly strict or the wife has to remain overly calm; we’ve built it on balance, and God has been faithful to us.
22 years of marriage is no small thing. Ajoke, thank you for putting up with me. I swear to God, my wife is not a wicked woman, whether at home or in public,” he said.
Afeez further noted that couples will always have their disputes from time to time, and it is up to them to make mistakes and learn from them.
He concluded by advising husbands and wives to avoid involving third parties when they have disagreements.
“There will always be challenges in a home, but it depends on how you handle them. Couples will always fight, but they don’t need to let their neighbors know about it. We’ve made our mistakes and have learned from them,” he added.
