President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently in a high-level meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as both leaders engage in discussions aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and the UK.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the bilateral talks are expected to result in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding covering key areas such as trade, investment, defence, and cultural collaboration.
The engagement underscores Nigeria’s push to deepen international partnerships, attract foreign investments, and upgrade critical infrastructure needed to drive economic growth.
A major highlight of the visit is the planned signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. The deal is expected to fund the rehabilitation of two major maritime facilities — the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex — both vital to Nigeria’s shipping and trade operations.
Earlier in the visit, President Tinubu and the First Lady were hosted at Windsor Castle by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The Nigerian leader is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi; Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake; Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris; and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu.
