The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has blasted the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the latest fight that happened during the North-East Consultative Meeting of the party in Gombe State.
The incident, which sparked intense reactions among Nigerians, emphasised the deep level of mistrust among key political actors in the region.
Reacting, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, spoke about the developments in Gombe and what it means for the country’s political future.
According to him, even though the PDP welcomes the exposure of the APC’s internal conflicts, the party remains committed to peaceful and problem-free politics.
Accusing specific APC figures of being irresponsible enough to escalate tensions through careless talks, he urged the ruling party to avoid engaging in activities that encourage violence.
“As long as the PDP as a party abhors violence in politics, we also urge the APC to refrain from engaging in activities that encourage violence,” he said.
He further questioned how the APC is expecting peace when its leaders constantly undermine their own members.
Osadolor concluded by clarifying that the PDP is not concentrating on the APC’s internal crisis, insisting that the party is only concerned about the potential impact the back and forth could have on Nigeria’s political landscape.
“How do you go to a man (Shettima)’s place (N-East) to undermine him and expect no outcry from his people?
We don’t want them to use their violent nature to influence the general election and the general public that violence is an acceptable part of politics.
We want to urge them and their party members to be circumspect in the way they conduct themselves publicly and carry out party activities. Younger Nigerians and dissenting Nigerians looking up to them should not think that violence is an acceptable part of politics.
We are happy that they are showing their disarray, and we wish their confusion to continue as a party,” he added.
