President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Rena Wakama-led side conquered Mali in the final on Sunday night at the Palais des Sports de Treichville to clinch their 5th consecutive Afrobasket title, becoming the first nation in history to achieve the feat.
With the victory, D’Tigress also extended their unbeaten run in the competition to a decade, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s basketball.
Reacting via a post on X on Sunday, Tinubu hailed the team for their exemplary performance and national pride.
He congratulated the ladies for the amazing feat on the African stage, noting that the coach deserves lots of praise for making Nigeria proud.
Tinubu stated that he is expecting every member of the team at the presidential villa, along with the trophy.
“Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa and seventh overall.
Well done, Coach Rena and the team. You have made Nigeria proud. I am expecting you all, along with the trophy.

Also congratulating the team, Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised D’Tigress for their discipline, team spirit, and inspiration to young Nigerian girls.
