10 Police Officers, Two Civilians, 17 Bandits Killed in Kebbi

Ten police officers, two civilians and 17 suspected bandits have been killed following a fierce gun battle in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The confrontation occurred on Monday after security operatives intercepted a group of heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles near the border between Kebbi and Zamfara states.

According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the armed group was engaged by security personnel during an operation aimed at preventing the criminals from infiltrating communities in the area.

The police spokesperson, Bashir Usman, said the encounter resulted in significant casualties on both sides.

He disclosed that 10 police officers were killed during the engagement, while two other officers sustained injuries and were receiving medical attention.

Two civilians were also reported killed in the incident, while security forces succeeded in eliminating 17 of the suspected bandits.

The attack underscores the continuing security challenges confronting communities in parts of north-western Nigeria, particularly areas bordering forests and states affected by banditry.

The Kebbi-Zamfara border has remained a major concern for security agencies because of the activities of armed groups operating across the region.

Security forces have continued to intensify operations in affected areas in an effort to disrupt bandit networks, protect residents and prevent attacks on vulnerable communities.
