The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has set August 1, 2026, as the deadline for companies to comply with statutory rules governing business letters, warning that violators will face sanctions. In a public notice issued Wednesday, the commission said the enforcement drive is anchored on Sections 304(1) and (2) and 729(1)(c) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, and covers all companies registered under the Act or any law it replaced. The law requires every company to state on its business letters the current and any former forename or initials and surname of each director, along with the nationality of non-Nigerian directors. Companies must also display their registered name, registration number and registered office address clearly on all business correspondence. “Commencing the 1st day of August 2026, the Commission shall enforce the full application of the requirements of Sections 304(1) & (2) and 729(1)(c) of the Act with respect to company business letters with attendant sanctions for non-compliance,” the CAC said. The commission urged companies to review their letterheads and official correspondence ahead of the deadline, noting that the move is designed to ensure accurate disclosure of director and corporate information while deepening compliance with CAMA 2020. CAC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and customer satisfaction as part of efforts to build a more resilient and responsive corporate regulatory environment.

Ahead of the 2023 election, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Babatunde Gbadamosi has defected to the Labor Party (LP).
Gbadamosi, who disclosed the latest development in a statement on Friday, expressed displeasure over how the senatorial bye-election panned out after the event of EndSars.

However, his hope was rekindled following the emergence of Peter Obi as the presidential candidate of LP and his choice of Yusuf Baba-Ahmed as running mate.

According to Gbadamosi, he is still surprised at the kind of energy, vigor, unity and tenacity of purpose being exhibited by youths for the former Governor of Anambra State.

He further said he had resigned his membership from PDP and subsequently declared support for the LP presidential flagbearer.

He said: “I had completely lost hope, especially in the youths of Nigeria, considering how the senatorial bye-elections panned out, after the traumatic events of the #EndSARS.

“However, the exit of Peter Obi from the PDP and his subsequent emergence as the Presidential candidate of the LP, and his brilliant choice of Mallam Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as running mate have rekindled my hope.

“I am 54 years old, and never in my life have I been privileged to witness the kind of energy, vim, vigor, unity and tenacity of purpose being exhibited by youths of all ethnicities and religious backgrounds in Nigeria over a political candidate.

I hereby publicly declare my resignation from the PDP and wish all the remaining members well.

“By the same token, I also hereby publicly declare my support for the Labor Party and its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.”

He said: “These two share a passion for education and knowledge, with Obi’s documented exploits in the education sector as governor of Anambra and Baba-Ahmed’s direct investment in education as Pro-Chancellor of the highly respected Baze University, Abuja.

“Both share a disdain for graft and believe in exterminating contract padding.

“I find myself left with no choice, when faced with the alternatives, but to publicly throw in my lot with these two fine gentlemen, especially considering that another good Uncle of mine, Dr Doyin Okupe is one of the navigators of their journey and had invited me very much earlier.”
